Dancer Dish: Katie Borthwick
If you were a meal; what meal would you be & why?
Cornmeal. Because, I'm corny.
If you had to pick one book to read right now what would it be & why?
"Lord of the Rings" - I've never attempted it.
If you could play hooky for a day or two; what would you do?
Sleep in, drink coffee, take ballet class, eat sushi, walk the dog, go shopping, re-decorate, get dinner with friends, watch a movie.
What would you say is your favorite place you've visited/traveled to & why?
I love Europe. Anywhere in Europe. It's easy to take trains anywhere and cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
If you had no ability to dance--what other art form would you choose?
Oh! I would be a musician, for sure. Either piano, violin, or cello. I'd have to learn though.
What is your favorite dance memory?
My first dance solo onstage. It was magical. I was a cardinal bird. I had to enter stage left, circle Snow White while flapping my 'wings' and exit stage right. Nailed it!
What is your most embarrassing dance moment?
Splitting my pants onstage? (...is technically the only one I can share publicly!)
Who is/was your biggest influence as an artist?
Growing up it was Patricia Barker from PNB. I idolized her feet.
When do you remember first saying, "I want to be a professional dancer"?
When I was in the sixth grade, I officially decided I wanted to be a 'professional dancer', but previously my dream was 'to be in a parade.'
What excites you the most about Intrepidus' third season?
Experiencing new innovation with people I trust in the creative process, the challenge of exploring new ideas within dance/dialogue, and stretching myself as an artist.
Lastly, what inspirational quote is resonating with you as of late?
"Be where your feet are." - Anonymous
