Having been hard at work for over a year and a half, Intrepidus made the decision to take a nine-month hiatus to reconnect with ourselves and loved ones. While it has been a nice reprieve-it's felt good getting back into the swing of things!
Last season, Femme was a new exploration for me as a choreographer; and the show really helped me to change the trajectory of Intrepidus as a whole. Upon the conclusion of the concert, there was an overwhelming sense of relief. As the artistic director, I continually feel an incredible sense of responsibility to create concerts that welcome all types of viewers of dance and works that are honest and genuine-and dedicate a fair amount of time towards steering us down that path. I found the investigating and questioning that was an integral part of Femme to be extremely tough; however, now heading into our third season I have never been more thankful for the challenge as we now are standing firm in who we are and what we do.
This season, we are thrilled to begin working on a new concert: Kindling. Kindling will be a show of works and/or concepts revisited. As is usual, the idea came to me before we even finished Femme! I think that part of the decision was birthed from this place of investigation I was in. Plus, the opportunity to be able to revisit a past piece is something we rarely find the time to do as artists. Needless to say, I am elated to delve into work for the show!
In addition to producing Kindling, Intrepidus will also continue to build our outreach program this season. Growing up, I was lucky enough to have my dance classes provided for free. This resulted in me knowing at a young age that I wanted to make dance accessible to all people-regardless of their age or economic status. In the months ahead, Intrepidus will be partnering with other organizations to offer classes and educational experiences to local communities.
Join us this season as we continue to share updates on our dancers, choreographers, events, and more. We cannot thank you enough for the support you have given us thus far-all of that positive energy carries us forward into season three!
