Dancer Interview: Heather Smith
Why is dancing professionally such an important part of your life?
Dance is my emotional outlet and working professionally allows me to work with artists who have important things to say.
How do you like to define yourself as a woman?
I am who I am in this moment. If I decide to change (and I will) I will be that person. Outside opinions may define me but I try not to put such restrictions on myself.
Name a moment when you most felt like a woman & why?
I never feel more womanly in any certain situation. It could be anything from having my period and wearing a dress to having a beer and farting in front of a room of people. Whenever I'm doing anything that can be classified as a manly or womanly act my feeling on the matter is entirely my own and therefore comes with the perspective of a woman.
Name a moment when you least felt like a woman & why?
Why is it important that women create art?
It’s important that all classifications of people feel represented in the world of art. If you have a voice, something to say and art is your language, you should create art.
What has been the most relatable moment from the concert for you?
I love Katie's solo!!!!! The roller coaster of emotions is so real!
Why do you think all types of people should go see Femme?
Femme has everything from modern to jazz and spoken word to satire. Its topic is relatable and will make every single person laugh out loud at least six point seven times.
