Dancer Interview: Caitlin Schafte
Why is dancing professionally such an important part of your life?
Dancing professionally is such a productive outlet physically, emotionally, and artistically. It's challenging, it's fulfilling, it's satisfying. Dancing is the most beautiful work I know.
How do you like to define yourself as a woman?
Adaptable and strong.
Name a moment when you most felt like a woman & why?
I felt most like a woman in a situation where I stood up for other people who couldn't stand up for themselves.
Name a moment when you least felt like a woman & why?
I least felt like a woman in times when I didn't or wasn't able to help the people around me, or myself.
Why is it important that women create art?
It's crucial that women create art because we are creators! Our experiences and stories to tell are unique and life-giving.
What has been the most relatable moment from the concert for you?
The most relatable moment from the concert for me has been in Holly Logan's piece Incisions and Alterations. I dance a duet with Ellen, in which we move in conflict and sharp opposition. After a little while we shift to moving in fluid unison. I think that moment is symbolic as to when we stop viewing other women as competition and start viewing them as just other humans to stand by, support, and learn from.
Why do you think all types of people should go see Femme?
Everyone should go see Femme because it will be relatable and engaging to all!
