Choreographer Interview: Lindsay Johns
Why is dancing professionally such an important part of your life?
Dance has always been a source of joy for me. I love how it helps express feelings and concepts in ways that words can't so I love to share that with others.
How do you like to define yourself as a woman?
Mother, daughter, sister, wife.
Name a moment when you most felt like a woman & why?
Probably while being pregnant! An experience like no other that only women have the privilege of doing.
Name a moment when you least felt like a woman & why?
Wearing men's trousers and an oversized men's shirt for a dance piece I was in.
Why is it important that women create art?
We have so many life experiences and emotions that men don't experience; or at least not in the same way.
What has been the most relatable moment from the concert for you?
My choreography! It tells a story from my personal experience of trying to get pregnant, pregnancy, and birth.
Why do you think all types of people should go see Femme?
I feel like they will get an important insight into why women are such unique, powerful creatures.
