Why Intrepidus Dance?
I found out about Intrepidus Dance through Samantha, the executive director of the company, who I had danced with previously. She was the photographer for my sister's wedding, and while I was getting dolled up for the day, she told me all about the talented Holly Logan and her plan to create a company. I was immediately interested! I had been hoping to begin dancing more, and this seemed like a great opportunity. I have already learned so much from Holly as well as the talented dancers involved. Being a part of this company is a privilege, and I can't wait to see what is in store for Intrepidus!
Why & when did you begin dancing?
I was constantly on the go when I was young, and couldn't help but jump around when music played. I asked my parents if I could start dance lessons, specifically hip hop, because the idea of ballet and classical music seemed supremely boring. I was enrolled in a happy-medium, a jazz class, at the age of six, and instantly loved it.
What styles of dance do you specialize in?
I have taken hip hop, ballet, pointe, jazz, and other different styles of dance, but probably contemporary.
Who is your dance icon & why?
Hmmmm, is it okay to say I don't believe I have one right now? There are many dancers and choreographers I marvel and look up to, but my influences are constantly changing. There is SO much to learn about dance, and I am hungry for growth! I'm eager to learn from and be inspired by as many "dance icons" as possible.
Describe yourself in one word:
Would you rather have super strength or super intelligence?
What is your music preference?
It depends on my mood and the situation, but I love rap, indie folk, some electronic music and big band swing. I do have a love and appreciation for all genres of music...except for death metal. I am still finding my love and appreciation for death metal.
What's your favorite movie or TV show & why?
My guilty pleasure is the Bachelor and Bachelorette reality tv series. A shameful thing to admit, but I must own up to it... it's just so bad that it's good.
There's a wide range of movies I love, but one of my favorites is (500) Days of Summer. I love the actors, the soundtrack, and can quote just about any part. That movie is a happy place of mine.
What do you do in your spare time?
I'll listen to music, spend time with my friends, go out to eat, exercise, and take naps.
Do you have any phobias?
I fear free falling! I'm fine with heights, but just thinking about skydiving/bungee jumping makes my heart race. I also irrationally fear losing a limb or physical torture. I am essentially scared of anything out of a horror movie. Watching The Saw movies or 27 hours? No thank you. I'm gonna pass on that forever.
Lastly, what's a piece of advice/encouragement you would give to your 15-year-old self?
I would encourage my 15-year-old self to not put so much pressure on being accepted by my peers. I was entering public high school only knowing a handful of people, since I had previously attended a small, private school. I didn't have a group of friends to stick with, like everyone else did, and I felt insignificant. 15-year-old Maddie needed to stop worrying about other's opinions of her, because there was no point! Have some confidence in yourself, 15 year-old Me! You'll do just fine.
